At Loudoun Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, your comfort and confidence are our top priorities. Our skilled surgeons – Dr. Andrew E. Bluhm, Dr. Steve S. Dorsch, Dr. Gene A. “Jay” Vandervort, and Dr. Amir Itani – are dedicated to providing clear guidance and compassionate care at every step of your journey to improved oral health.

First Visit: What to Expect

Your first appointment at Loudoun Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, whether at our Ashburn, Leesburg, or South Riding locations, will involve an in-depth consultation. During this visit, one of our skilled surgeons will review your diagnosis and discuss potential treatment options. A follow-up appointment for the actual procedure will typically be scheduled after this consultation, giving you ample time to prepare and make informed decisions.

How to Prepare for Your Consultation

To help us provide you with the best care, please bring the following items to your initial visit:

  • Your physician’s and dentist’s names and contact information.
  • A surgical referral slip (if applicable) and any recent X-rays.
  • A list of all current medications, including herbal supplements.
  • Details of any medical or dental insurance coverage.
Important: If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must accompany you to both the consultation and treatment appointments.

Patient Forms

Prior to your appointment at Loudoun Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Dr. Andrew Bluhm, Dr. Steve Dorsch, Dr. Gene Vandervort and Dr. Amir Itani ask that you complete our new patient registration forms. You may fill out the forms and submit them online, and once they are completed, they will be sent to our surgeons and their team over our secure network. Should you have any questions about our forms, or to learn more about our oral or maxillofacial surgery in Ashburn and Leesburg, Virginia, please feel free to contact us.

Preparing for Surgery

For those undergoing surgery with IV anesthesia, please follow these critical guidelines to ensure a safe and smooth experience:

  • Do not eat or drink for at least 8 hours prior to surgery.
  • Arrange for a responsible adult to accompany you to the appointment, drive you home, and stay with you for the remainder of the day.
  • Notify our team of any medical conditions or medications you’re currently taking, such as heart medications, anticoagulants, or aspirin, to ensure proper pre-surgical care.

X-ray and Imaging Requests

If your dentist or physician has taken X-rays, you may ask them to send the images to any of our locations. If there is not enough time for forwarding, please pick up the X-rays and bring them to your consultation. If additional X-rays are necessary, we can perform them in-office.

Financial Responsibility and Insurance Information

While we are committed to working with your insurance provider, please remember that all charges are ultimately your responsibility. After billing your insurance, we will send a monthly statement for any remaining balance. Most insurance companies respond within four to six weeks. If there is a delay, or if you have questions, please reach out to our billing team. Prompt payment of any outstanding balance is greatly appreciated.
