Each of our surgeons brings a unique background and deep commitment to excellence, ensuring our patients receive the highest standard of care.
Andrew E. Bluhm, DDS
Dr. Andrew Bluhm has been practicing oral and maxillofacial surgery in Loudoun County since 1994. He completed his undergraduate degree in music at Middlebury College before earning his DDS from the University of North Carolina and training at the Medical College of Virginia, where he completed his residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery. Board-certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery since 1996, Dr. Bluhm is well-versed in all aspects of the specialty, including dental implants, oral and facial trauma, and reconstructive surgery.
Dr. Bluhm is also deeply invested in the dental community as the co-director of the Greater Loudoun Study Club, an organization that fosters continuing education for local dental professionals. He holds hospital privileges at INOVA Loudoun Hospital Center and is affiliated with multiple professional organizations, including the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the Academy of Osseointegration.
Outside of his surgical practice, Dr. Bluhm has a strong passion for music, performing regularly with the Loudoun Symphony Orchestra and co-founding the Saturday Morning Brass Project. He is also an active member of St. David’s Episcopal Church, where he participates in the music ministry and international outreach, including mission trips to Honduras.
Dr. Bluhm and his wife, Jenifer, have two grown children and enjoy the vibrant community of Loudoun County, where he also spends time cycling and playing tennis.
Steve S. Dorsch, DDS, MD
Dr. Steve Dorsch has provided oral and maxillofacial surgical care in Northern Virginia since 1999. A dual-degree, board-certified surgeon, Dr. Dorsch completed his DDS at the Medical College of Virginia, where he also earned his MD and completed an internship in anesthesiology. His residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery provided him with a comprehensive foundation in procedures ranging from dental implants to bone grafting, with a special interest in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery.
Dr. Dorsch’s extensive experience in anesthesiology enables him to offer a full spectrum of anesthesia options to ensure patient comfort during surgery. As a leader in continuing education, he co-directs the Greater Loudoun Study Club and actively lectures on topics such as dental implants, wisdom teeth management, and innovations in surgical technology. Dr. Dorsch’s professional memberships include the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and the Academy of Osseointegration.
Outside the office, Dr. Dorsch enjoys outdoor pursuits such as hiking, fishing, and skiing, often accompanied by his wife, Lee, and their five children.
Gene A. “Jay” Vandervort, DDS, MD
Dr. Gene Vandervort joined Loudoun Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 2009, bringing with him two decades of experience from the U.S. Navy, where he retired as a Captain. A highly respected surgeon, Dr. Vandervort earned his DDS from the University of Illinois and his MD from Georgetown University, followed by a residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery and a fellowship in facial cosmetic surgery. His comprehensive expertise extends to facial trauma, jaw surgery, and implantology.
During his naval career, Dr. Vandervort served as an oral surgeon on missions supporting Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Southern Watch, treating service members onboard USS Kitty Hawk and USS George Washington. He later directed residency training in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, VA. Since joining Loudoun Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Dr. Vandervort has volunteered his surgical skills to Northern Virginia Dental Clinic and Chesapeake Care Clinic.
Dr. Vandervort is dedicated to his community and is a proud father of three. He and his wife, Lisa, have been together since high school, and he enjoys spending his free time with family, gardening, and playing guitar.
Amir Itani, DDS
Joining the Loudoun Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery team in 2023, Dr. Amir Itani brings extensive experience in comprehensive oral surgery. He earned his DDS from the University of Maryland and completed a highly competitive residency at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, where he served as Chief Resident. Dr. Itani has advanced training in the full scope of oral surgery, including dentoalveolar surgery, corrective jaw surgery, and anesthesia management. He is an advocate for empathetic, patient-centered care, taking the time to educate and empower his patients.
Dr. Itani’s dedication to continuous learning drives him to stay at the forefront of surgical advancements. He is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Living in Arlington, VA, with his wife Jessica, an orthodontist, Dr. Itani balances his professional life with hobbies like basketball, snowboarding, and exploring Loudoun County’s vibrant communities.
Dr. Itani’s guiding philosophy is, “Treat the patient, not the problem,” ensuring a personalized approach to each patient’s care.
